About Us
Pets at Peace is an independent, family-run pet crematorium based in Whitehaven, Cumbria. Founded by Jeanne and Stephen, lifelong animal lovers, our aim is simple — to provide a compassionate, dignified service for families saying goodbye to a beloved companion.

Pets at Peace was founded in 2021 by Jeanne and her partner Stephen, with a simple but deeply personal aim — to provide a compassionate, dignified pet cremation service for families across Whitehaven and West Cumbria.
As lifelong animal lovers, pets have always been at the heart of their home. From dogs to smaller companions, animals have never simply been “pets” — they have been family. Like so many owners, Jeanne has experienced the heartbreak of saying goodbye and the difficult decisions that follow.
For many people, there can feel like very few options. Some choose to bury their pets at home, which is not always practical or possible. Others rely on their veterinary practice to make arrangements. While vets provide invaluable care and support, the cremation process itself is often handled externally, and pet owners may not always know where their companion is taken or how long arrangements may take.
When Jeanne lost her own dog, Leo, she chose to take him personally to a crematorium she discovered by chance during his hydrotherapy sessions. However, this facility was over 65 miles away — a journey of around an hour and a half each way. It made her realise how limited the options were for families in West Cumbria.
That experience planted a seed.
With over 57% of UK households owning a pet — many with more than one — Jeanne felt strongly that families in this area deserved a local, independent choice. A place where they could know exactly who was caring for their beloved companion, and where every pet would be treated with individual attention and respect.
And so, Pets at Peace was created.
From the very beginning, the focus has been on providing a personal, affordable and transparent service — not on large-scale operations or high volumes, but on care. Each pet is cremated individually. Each family is treated with compassion. Every step is handled with dignity.
Jeanette and Stephen see their work as a labour of love. They understand that saying goodbye is one of the hardest moments a pet owner will face. To them, providing a gentle and respectful final journey is a last act of kindness we can give back to the companions who have given us years of unconditional love.
Pets at Peace is proud to serve Whitehaven and the surrounding areas of Cumbria, offering private appointments and collection services to support families when they need it most.
