I would really like to give a big push for this place, it’s only been open for 6months and a lot of people don’t even know it exists yet. We were adamant that we wanted Flynn cremated privately, we didn’t want him taken out of the county, frozen and left on a shelf with a thousand other pets and animals until it was his turn, which can often take up to two weeks. It’s really upsetting and I apologise if I’ve upset anyone but that’s the reality. Up until this place opened, we were going to take him to Armathwaite in the Eden Valley, despite it being a bit of a trek so I was really relieved when we discovered Pets at Peace. When we took Flynn to the vets at 10.40pm at Windermere and we realised we were going to have to let him go, I made a panicky phone call to them, no answer but then I was immediately called back. In hindsight they were probably in bed but my brain wasn’t registering much and I was in a state of panic. I asked if they would be able to pick him up from Windermere the following day and I was told yes of course. I had to hand the phone over to Mark and the vet at this point as I was too upset and headed back to cuddle Flynn. Anyhow, Flynn was picked up the following day and instead of being packed in a bag, he was laid in a dog bed and transported through the lakes to Whitehaven. We were asked if we wanted to go and sit with him but we declined as the last image in our head of him, was him lying on the floor with his head on his paw, looking so beautiful and peaceful. But you can if you wish and you can spend as much time with your pet as you want. We had a look at the room and it’s lovely. Flynn was cremated within 36hrs, it can be done on the same day depending on time and it was comforting to have him home so quickly. There is a memorial tree in the waiting room and you are given a carved paw with your pets name on, which you can place amongst its branches and also a photo of your pet is put on the wall with all the other lost ones. They’ve also cremated cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, a hamster and a duck! The little extras were lovely and not expected, the candle with his name on, a certificate to say he was individually cremated, a frame with his paw prints on and a couple of spare prints, a little jar with some fur clippings and a packet of flower seeds to scatter in his memory. And all in all, it cost a lot less than what we expected and not a great deal more than what it would have cost us anyhow. But it gave us great relief that Flynn was treated with respect and much love on his final journey. I’m sorry that it’s of no help to the ones that have already lost but just want to help people know for the future that they’ve got a choice in what happens to their pets. This is a local business that cares deeply about the morals of how your beloved pet is handled and I can’t recommend them enough. Thank you Jeanne and Steve for everything. ❤️
